A heart warming piano story has been in the news recently. It is the story of carpenter Désiré Mulumeoderwa who has taken on the mammoth task of building the first ever upright piano in Rwanda. Many schools and institutions across this African, land locked country offer piano lessons, but the Rwandan idea of a piano is actually a digital keyboard. While keyboards and digital pianos are actually far more practical than an upright piano, there are traditionalists out there who are prepared to pay the expensive maintenance costs (or learn how to do it themselves) and won’t settle for anything less.
