When you think of your average, run-of-the-mill digital piano, you think, of course, first and foremost of the keys. Those dazzling black and white ivories, tinkling away. However, the future is here, and it has different ideas. Meet the Seaboard Grand. The futuristic keyless digital piano, that uses continuous touch ‘key-waves’. The fretless piano of the future.
Tokyo is bringing the house down with their new Steinway showroom!
A fantastic new music shop has opened in Tokyo, and as well as selling beautiful instruments, the showroom in itself is a complete work of art. The whole shop is the Japanese flagship for piano giant, Steinway & Sons. The interior of the building has been designed to mimic the beauty of the piano, both in its finished state but also in the creative process of building the instruments. It also reflects the history of the world acclaimed company, where “clients can feel Steinway’s craftsmanship, philosophy, history, and the beauty of their instruments”, says Ogata Yoshiki who founded the studio.
The internet has been going wild with the news that Justin Bieber has been playing ‘classical piano’. Although this is clearly an incredibly loose term being applied here, it appears that Bieber was indeed spotted playing (or at least, trying to play) Beethoven’s Fur Elise. Apparently the whole rendition was recognisable, but certainly not good.

The rock God has inspired millions to go into the music career and has in fact inspired many of the other big names in the music industry today. Bowie was an inspiration to many, not just in the music industry, but also in the film world. His smash hit film Labyrinth will go down in history as being an eighties classic and there is absolutely no doubt that hundreds of thousands of Bowie fans spent last night huddled up in a blanket watching this iconic flick, fighting off the tears and fondly remembering the legend who has now passed into the stars, to once and for all become a Starman.

Something you probably haven’t thought of when considering buying your new digital piano is the quality of the key tops. While there are some great pianos out there with superb sound quality and feel, it’s always worth having a look to see what the key tops are made of. You will find that a lot of them are made from plastic. While you might not think this is a big issue, it does actually make more difference than you would think when playing.
This year a digital piano will make a brilliant gift for anyone, and you are still in plenty of time to order one in time for Christmas! The question is, where to start?! The whole process of buying an electric piano can be very daunting (especially if you’re buying it for someone else, not yourself) if you’re not sure what to look for!!
