With digital pianos you have the fantastic option of getting wonderfully jazzy this Christmas. You can play anything you like on a jazz organ or electric piano setting (available on pretty much every digital piano ever made) and it will sound gloriously jazzy. Even if you play a bit of The Beatles, in a rigid 4/4, adding some E-Piano to your playing will give it that smooth edge that everyone is after on those long December nights in front of the open log fire!!
It’s getting to that time of the year when every single channel on the television is showing all of our favourite films, so brace yourself! Everyone’s favourites will be showing, probably headed by the likes of the Harry Potter series and Sound of Music.. But last year I noticed something interesting. There were a fair few piano movies showing! Now, while something like perhaps The Piano is completely understandable to show at Christmas, as it has a nice little Christmas scene in it and the obligatory happy ending, last year between Christmas and New Year there was a television showing of The Pianist! Not exactly the most jolly piano movie…
This year the popularity and status of girl group LEJ has absolutely skyrocketed. The group is made up of three girls from France who started off by simply uploading a few videos to Youtube of them making music together. At first, this was just a hobby and the videos were a bit scrappy, as would be expected from three teenage girls just playing around on Youtube. As time went on their videos began to gradually receive more and more recognition, especially in France. The group seemingly invested in a better camera and their videos started looking more and more professional.
As everyone will beware at this point, this week Paris saw some horrific terrorist attacks. What a lot of people will not know, however, is that in this time of despair and panic, one man wheeled his piano out into the centre of Paris to spread the message of peace and love. Many think that he is a madman, and perhaps he is, to put himself in such a dangerous and compromising position, but through his piano he certainly managed to do as he intended. He amassed a crowd quickly, all of whom appreciated what he was doing and urged him to go on as his actions were exactly what the city needed at that moment in time.
Anyone who grew up in the 90s and 2000s should remember the joy that was the boy band Busted. Busted were an absolute smash hit band for a good decade and any girl between the ages of eight and eighteen probably had some kind of Busted poster up on their bedroom wall at home.
Youtube musicians have their own little world; their very own Youtube bubble. If you have spent any time exploring the weird and wonderful world of Youtube musicians then you will appreciate that it’s a bit of a clique, but a clique that everyone wants to be in!
Adele’s new song has already proved to be something of a smash hit. After having taken a short break from the music industry to focus on her personal life, this singing super star has returned to the bright lights. Her last major hit was the cover song for the last (tremendously successful and box office smash) Bond movie entitled Skyfall. The Skyfall track is one that fir the film absolutely perfectly and won Adele an academy award, quite rightly so.
Last night we heard of the sad and untimely death of Jonah Lomu who suffered from a heart attack yesterday and the age of 40 after having suffered from long standing kidney problems. The former all-blacks star player is a legend over the world and today New Zealand has found itself in a state of mourning as one of their national heroes has passed through the pearly gates.
It has come to public attention recently that there is such a thing as a Toy Piano Festival. This is effectively exactly what it says on the tin; a music festival dedicated entirely to the toy piano! It is happening in Queens in America for the first time next month and there are many people who have started to get very excited about the prospect.
The festival has been dubbed the “UnCaged Toy Piano Festival” and is due to take place on December 4th and 5th and feature a grand total of three events, one of which is a concert at the Museum of the Moving Image — to spotlight the sound of the miniature instrument. This event is sure to go down a storm with any fan of the toy piano!
