If you are lucky enough to be spending this week around the gorgeous South Coast, then you might be pleased to know there is a rather interesting concert due to take place this coming Friday! A violin and piano duo of Leslie Hatfield and Huw Watkins will be taking to the stage at the Courtenay Centre in Newton Abbot. The concert starts at 7:30pm and tickets are priced from £10 to £15. More information about the concert and ticket purchases can be found on the Nasda Concerts website. Nasda are responsible for a number of classical music events on the South Coast and browsing their website might highlight some other interesting events to you.

The Concert Programme

The concert from Leslie Hatfield and Huw Watkins consists of a programme of five works by a range of composers. The concert will kick off with a series of five melodies written by Sergey Prokofiev. Following this, a composition of Huw Watkins’ own devising will be performed. The piece is entitled ‘Spring’ for Violin and Piano. Next come the Three Romances for Violin and Piano by Robert Schumann, followed by the Sonata for Violin and Piano No 2 in G which was written by Maurice Ravel. The concert will close with Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Sonata for Violin and Piano No 5 in F, ‘Spring’.

This concert is different to many classical concerts, as the programme consists of many shorter pieces of music rather than two or three long ones. Violin and piano duets always make for wonderful entertainment, so a whole evening of these is a fantastic opportuntity!
