ENO Makes Yamaha Official Partner

English National Opera known as ENO has made Yamaha their official partner. Yamaha’s first revolutionary TransAcoustic™ piano can now be located in the orchestra pit at the London Coliseum.

Martin Fitzpatrick,Image result for eno yamaha ENO’s Head of Music said “At ENO we give our pianos a thorough workout. Creating the orchestral colours on a piano requires an instrument of artistry and reliability, delicacy and toughness, depth and precision. I am delighted that, through this new partnership, Yamaha have provided ENO with pianos that fully meet the demands we place upon them”.

The company itself have a vast team of people and each person within ENO is extremely important and valuable to the final piece. For instance the ENO chorus features exceptional singers who have been trained to the highest standard to be in this position; each performer must show excellent team, physical and mental skills to be able to play a part in the ENO family.

The orchestra consisting of around 72 musicians now has a new addition to its team being the Yamaha TransAcoustic™. Repetiteur Richard Pierson is seen on footage enjoying the beautiful sounds this exceptional instrument has to offer.

The TransAcoustic™ is in fact an acoustic piano with features of a digital piano; for example the piano itself can act like a ‘loudspeaker’ which essentially means that the piano itself does not have to be connected to an external speaker to amplify the volume as the soundboard uses technology to achieve the loudspeaker effect.

Digital pianos today offer the choice of different voices and timbres to enhance a pianist’s playing; the Yamaha TransAcoustic™ also offers this feature which will also be a huge benefit for ENO’s performances.

ENO is a magnificent opera company which presents excellent performances of many wonderful operas such as Puccini’s Madam Butterfly, Britten’s Peter Grimes and of course Verdi’s La Traviata. These luscious and romantic operas require extremely demanding rehearsal hours some of which are only available with piano until sitzprobe where singers can finally sing with the orchestra and get a feel for the texture of the orchestra; now ENO has made Yamaha their official partner this option of singing with some form of orchestra can now be available in any rehearsal. Understandably it would not be the same as it would be with a full orchestra, but with the loudspeaker function along with the choice of different orchestral voices available on the TransAcoustic™ models, this can now give singers a ‘headstart’ before sitzprobe finally happens.

With this instrument which has all the features of a digital piano and more, ENO now has some of the best technology Yamaha now has to offer.
